Why did you fall in love with Vallarta and want to live here?

The fabulous weather, friendly local people, wonderful restaurants, plenty to see and do, and a great place to retire were all considerations that helped to make our decision to retire here.

Why did you choose Rivera Cuale as opposed to other possibilities in the area?

We appreciate the security and the sense that we have a little bit of the jungle at our fingertips. The river provides a unique environment of tranquility and peace. Here we also get to live in a community and experience the Mexican people and their customs.

What do you enjoy most about Rivera Cuale?

The sound of the river is very soothing. Bruce loves to feed birds and Rivera Cuale has a great opportunity to see lots of birds. I am hoping that with the addition of two more towers, we will have a community of people who are like minded, here to retire and enjoy life.

What do you like about the area Rivera Cuale is in?  

We enjoy a healthy lifestyle. Being close to the market provides fresh meat & produce daily. The 15 minute walk to downtown provides exercise and lots to look at while you are walking. We are close enough to enjoy many of the downtown amenities, but removed enough to have the tranquility of being in a unique natural environment away from the noise and bustle of tourism.

We first visited Puerto Vallarta in 1985. The warm people, near perfect weather, food, music and spectacular views have brought us back every year since. Having recently retired from the furniture and decorating business we are free to spend more time in Puerto Vallarta. All it took was one walk through the gardens of Rivera Cuale and we knew we had found our new winter home.

Is, Rivera Cuale, a foodie experience? 

When I speak about Vallarta, it’s hard to decide where to start. It is a thriving city full of cheerful people that every day get to wake up and enjoy the many beauties this wonderful town has to offer. One great example of that is our food. Our city’s purveyors of culinary delights range from the well known to the well hidden in the many local neighborhoods, and our own Rivera Cuale neighborhood of Emiliano Zapata is no exception.

Celia’s Diner, located on Lazaro Cardenas, between Camichin and Naranjo streets, offers a great selection of traditional Mexican dishes. Their superb cooking touch and authenticity are clearly appreciated by the many locals who regularly fill their seats. I highly recommend their Gorditas, a different and very tasty version of soft tacos.

Another hidden Mexican food gem is The Red Cabbage, on Rivera del Rio Street just around the corner from the bridge on Lazaro Cardenas Street. Their cuisine can be classified as gourmet traditional Mexican, highlighted by the best chiles en nogada in town.

A newcomer on the scene is La Luna Restaurant, Bar & Deli on Venustiano Carranza, which will delight you with their eclectic menu, and their incredible sauce creations. They even offer cooking classes for those who enjoy learning how to whip up some of these wonderful dishes at home.

And of course, no local Mexican neighborhood food scene is complete without a mention of some of the standout taco stands. The corner of Naranjo and Venustiano Carranza features two of the best, with Marisma serving up the seafood variety and “Las Gueras” slicing up the delicious tacos al pastor.

So next time you’re in town, in your beautiful Rivera Cuale condo, be sure and venture out to discover and enjoy some of the wonderful food our very own neighborhood has to offer.

Speaking of these two units, we’d like to announce a new option we have for their terraces! If you were at Rivera Cuale before and we took you up to unit 802 or 803 to see the layout and the view, you may recall that there was relatively little cover over the terrace, and as much as you loved the view, you weren’t sure how comfortable you would be sitting in the direct afternoon sun.

Well don’t despair!

We are now offering the option to have a roof over the terrace, creating a lovely overhang that gives you sun protection and additional privacy. There is only one catch! Since these units are side-by-side, they must have the same type of terrace roof to maintain uniformity across the building facade. This means, the first person to buy one of these gorgeous homes gets to make the decision for both himself or herself, and for their future neighbor. Wow, no pressure, right?

We can tell you that since we have started showing this option to our daily visitors, interest has been increasing and these units might not be available for much longer. We’re just sayin’…

Where are you from?

We are from Saint-Chrysostome, a small village South of Montreal in the province of Quebec, Canada.

Why did you fall in love with Vallarta and want to move here?

Climate is great (as compared to Canada this time of the year) and the area is cozy, overflowing with sympathetic people. Cost of living is low and services are available and excellent.

Why did you choose Rivera Cuale, as opposed to other possibilities in the area?

This place is gorgeous and superbly well built (I am a retired engineer, I really know). There is nearly always a cool breeze sweeping across the building and there is a breathtaking view of the cascading Cuale River. The developer’s will to create an ecologically oriented design appealed to us.

What do you love most about Rivera Cuale?

Comfortable and safe. A very good investment. Administration personnel are very helpful and friendly.

What do you like about the area Rivera Cuale is in?

There is an old town flavor such as in the old town sectors of big cities in Europe. Friendly neighbourhood merchants, lovely families, church-going people, rustic and slow way of life, etc.

Additional comments

We were both raised in rural areas during the 1950s. We have the distinct feeling of recapturing a lot of the charm from that era in Vallarta. It is a wonderful feeling. Also, as we are both retired, what’s better than a six month vacation in Vallarta followed by a six month vacation in rural Canada.

We first visited Puerto Vallarta as part of a Princess cruise in 1994. Out of all of the stops, Puerto Vallarta was the only one that called us back. We’ve had a timeshare since 2002. Puerto Vallarta and its people always felt welcoming on every visit. There were always plenty of activities to keep us entertained (horseback riding, snorkeling, and shopping). We started to think that we would like to retire in Vallarta about 5 years ago.

We chose Rivera Cuale because of its location on the river and the view, which includes the city lights as well as the ocean. The condos that rise from the southern hills feel too disconnected from the daily life in Old Town. One of the first restaurants that we discovered in Vallarta was Los Arbolitos, which is now sadly closed, but there are so many great places within walking distance.

We love the quality of the architecture as well as the construction details at Rivera Cuale. The location is perfect for us because of the view and the sound of the river. We like the idea of being part of the everyday community life.

We will be moving to Puerto Vallarta with our two chow chows (Nick & June). We presently have 2 restaurants in Napa Valley that serve breakfast and lunch.  It will be a couple more years before we will live fulltime at Rivera Cuale but we will spend as much time as possible until then.
