A very well known travel writer recently shared her top choices worldwide for retiring and living the good life on a budget. Her number one pick for ‘luxury on a budget’ is our own Puerto Vallarta.
One of the main reasons she gave was that our town, while having first world amenities, has retained the real charm of Mexico, unlike many very nice spots that have lost their “Mexican-ness”, to use her word.
Among the many positives we have are the abundance of seaside based activities, from lazing on the beach to the many marinas for boaters, the more than ample number of excellent golf courses, the incredible quality of the restaurants that abound, and the variety of nightlife, shopping, multiplex cinemas with first run movies in English – and all of this five star luxury lifestyle can be had on a three star budget.
The important thing to recognize about Puerto Vallarta is that a lifestyle of the rich and famous is not some property developer’s vision or speculator’s dream. This is a reality now. The Mexican government, in addition to developers and speculators, has been investing in the Pacific coast in and around Puerto Vallarta over many decades.
One travel article I recently read compared the Puerto Vallarta lifestyle to the best of southern California; yet here this is affordable to regular folks.
For retirees in general, an important consideration is medical care. Puerto Vallarta offers several state of the art hospitals with many fine medical specialists, as well as a medical referral service from a long time American expat with a medical background. Medical tourism is rapidly becoming big business. Affordable, top notch dental care has also long enjoyed a great and well deserved reputation here.
Mexico’s Puerto Vallarta region has five important retire-overseas advantages:
1. Easy access from the United States and Canada.
2. Unbeatable location on the Pacific coast.
3. The infrastructure, services, and amenities make it one of the most user friendly retire-overseas choices.
4. An existing, growing, and welcoming community of expats from all over the world.
5. Affordable cost.
Even though it is nice to make the effort to learn the language of your adopted country, you can easily get along speaking English, as most locals enjoy learning it and are always eager to practice with the foreign community.
Rivera Cuale is a perfect example of the wonderful Puerto Vallarta lifestyle: a top quality development in the heart of the city, easy access to everything, great neighbors, a real sense of community among the residents, and a beautiful tropical setting from which to enjoy it all.
