Riverbank Lounging at Rivera Cuale

We love showing off the beauty of Rivera Cuale. This Garden of Eden, with the privilege of being located on the historic banks of the Cuale River, is a very special place, in harmony with nature. One of our favorite features on the property is the riverwalk. As you stroll the grounds around the pool admiring the beautiful landscaping, you will encounter a lovely rock stairway with rustic Guayabillo wood handrails leading down to the river’s edge. A hidden gem that is so delightful to the senses, everyone is truly enchanted by the experience.

Our residents blissfully descend to the riverbank terrace, with book in hand and the best of intentions. But, after a few minutes of relaxing on a chaise lounge in the shade of a huge weeping willow, most are lulled to sleep. The sound of the river is hypnotic. The rushing water keeps the air moving and fresh.

Evening brings its own special enchantment with the gardens and walkway softly lit to accompany the quiet of the riverbank.

As tranquil and peaceful as it is on the river, it’s a wonderful surprise to realize that Rivera Cuale is only a fifteen minute walk to the action-packed Zona Romántica and Centro, with all the excitement and culture that town has to offer.

There is much to see on the riverbank in addition to the fabulous gardens. Pack a picnic basket and enjoy the luxury of a private Sunday brunch on the river while watching the cormorants (diving ducks) fishing, heads bobbing in and out of the water. Or watch them sun themselves on a rock, wings outspread to dry off after a dive. You can also admire the graceful blue or white herons posing and grooming themselves atop a boulder.

While down there, you are likely to spot a big mellow iguana sunning on a tree branch, or its cousin, the garrobo, poised on a rock at the water’s edge.

With ecology in mind and using green technology, the wall behind the riverbank lounge area was constructed of recycled tires dug into the hillside, bound together, filled with soil and then planted with native flora. Some of the benefits of using old tires are that they are not incinerated, don’t leach toxins into the soil or water, reduce the carbon footprint, and create a retaining wall to prevent the bank’s erosion.  It is a living wall of ferns, flowers and greenery. Butterflies adorn this space like colorful jewels. This use of recycled material helps to preserve our little corner of paradise.

The riverwalk will extend the full length of our river frontage at Rivera Cuale so that everyone can hide away in the cool green natural surroundings.

Once you go down to the riverbank and settle in on a lounger, be prepared to never want to leave.
